5 Reasons Why Art Should Be Part of Your Self-Care Routine.

Art can be a really helpful activity when it comes to self-care. The art of putting paint to canvas can lead to improving physical and mental health.

The best self-care tips start with everyday activities that can help with emotions. With this in mind, one of the best self-care activities is mindful art-making.

Creating art as a consistent practice can enhance your wellbeing and boost your sense of living in the present moment. It’s very zen, and we all need a little zen in our lives. Read on to find out how making art can help with self compassion, feeling stress-free and self care.

5 Self-Care Benefits of Art:

1. Enhances Self Expression

The beauty of creating art as self-care is that it allows you to put your emotions onto your canvas. Self expression through art can be shown through colour and patterns. Mindful art is always judgement-free and enables self expression in a creative way.

Releasing emotions in this way can provide a sense of relief and can better your understanding of your own thought processes. Deep.

Getting creative with painting and your ideas can build confidence and self esteem. Building a solid foundation for these to grow can have more positive impacts in your personal life, workplace and with friends.

3. Distracts Your Mind

Practice makes perfect, and mastering a visual art skill can work wonders for improving the way you think about yourself.

Want a break your thoughts? Art can help us stay sane and reduce stress by providing a constructive distraction. If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed, making art can help us focus on the present moment, find balance, and enjoy exploring your own creativity.

4. Helps the Healing Process

We all love a bit of self discovery. You can learn a lot about yourself by putting paint to a blank canvas and creating mindful art. Create art based on your feelings and let the process of painting unveil your mindset. This is the powerful role art can play in your self-care routine.

5. Connects You With Others

A benefit of art is that it allows you to connect with others through creativity. Art is a powerful social tool when it comes to making new friends, connecting with loved ones or those with similar interests to you.

Ways to Use Art to Practise Self Care:

1. Create a Vision Board

Get creative about your life with a vision board. Be in the present moment while finding inspiration for your future. Pinterest is a popular platform where art and other pins can be a helpful tool to organising elements of your life.

2. Mindful Meditative Art

Practice mindfulness by painting your own masterpiece. With busy lives, art allows you to stay focused as a meditation exercise. Focus on the precise movements of putting paint to canvas, how it makes you feel and any ideas it inspires.

3. Create an Emotion Wheel

Focus on your mental health with your own emotion wheel. Using all the colours, draw a wheel with different colours representing comfortable and uncomfortable emotions you come across in your life. This enables you to open up and gain a better understanding of your inner feelings.

4. Design a Postcard that will Never be Sent

Put all your thoughts onto a postcard filled with either feel good moments or something you’ve wanted to get off your chest. This is a fun way to express your feelings and is something you can read again and again when you need to.

5. Create a Painting Only Using Colours that Calm You

Reduce your stress level and anxiety by painting with colours that bring you joy and happiness. Express your creativity with self care art that will encourage you to feel calm, relaxed and inspire hope.

Practising mindful art is the perfect way to take time to focus on your own world. Mindful colouring doesn’t require a great deal of artistic skill, but the results can be absolutely beautiful. It’s an amazing way to practise mindful art and enjoy all the mental health benefits it provides.

7. Attend a Paint and Sip Session

9. Draw a Body Image Sketch

Drawing might be considered the most simple form of art, but it’s a great way to tap into your innermost feelings. Get a sketch pad and draw your own body onto canvas. Focusing your own form is a great way to explore self care and show your body the love it deserves.

10. Create a Past, Present and Future Portrait

Ready to get deep? Create multiple portraits for yourself in the past, present and future. This activity is personal to you, showing how you feel towards yourself as you make art about your world.

Top Benefits of Pet Canvas Art and Why you should create your own

Top Benefits of Pet Canvas Art and Why you should create your own

Top Benefits of Pet Canvas Art and Why you should create your own

Pet owners are always thinking of new ways to deepen their connection with their trusted companions. One way to do this is to create custom pet canvas art.

Immortalising your pet on canvas is an exciting prospect, and doing the painting yourself is even better. Even if you’re not a confident artist, you can take advantage of an instructed paint and sip session to make the process easier and more enjoyable.

Whether you’re the proud animal parent of a dog, cat or albatross, there are many benefits of pet canvas art to consider.

  1. It will make the perfect gift
  2. Cement your pet as a family member
  3. Give your gallery wall a talking point
  4. Creatively capture your love for your furry friend
  5. An evening to remember with friends and family
  6. Honour them forever
  7. No one knows your pet better than you

1. It will make the perfect gift

Birthdays. Weddings. Christmas. We’re constantly required to come up with new gift ideas for our friends and family members. If your connection with your pet is shared by another person you love, a DIY portrait is a surefire winner.

Forget socks and chocolates. From partners to parents, custom pet canvas art is the special gift they never knew they needed.

2. Cement your pet as a family member

Your pet is as much a family member as any person in your clan. What better way to let the world know than a stunning portrait? Once you’ve gone to the effort of creating and displaying your artwork, there will be no doubt that your four-legged friend has a permanent place in the family hierarchy.

What features of your pet are most endearing? Use the opportunity to emphasise your animal’s most distinct attributes, be it cute, quirky or fearsome. Family photos do a great job of incorporating the personality of their subjects, and your pet canvas art is no different.

3. Give your gallery wall a talking point

Once you knock your pet portrait out of the park, there will be no doubt as to which painting will receive pride of place on your gallery wall. Whether you’ve created a pop-art puppy or an impressionistic kitten, your animal artwork deserves centre stage in your house. It will soon become the ultimate conversation starter, and you’ll get to watch jaws drop as you casually mention that you painted it yourself.

4. Creatively capture your love for your furry friend

Did you top your primary school art class? An evening spent creating a custom pet portrait is the perfect time to come out of retirement and put your creative flair to good use.

You might be wondering: I’ve got hard drives full of pictures of my pet, so why bother with a painting?

While photography does a great job of recording memories exactly as they occurred, canvas art offers a completely different dimension of insight and passion. Take full artistic licence and portray your pet in a new light.

5. An evening to remember with friends and family

Once you’ve caught the pet canvas art bug, you’ll soon share your plans with every animal lover you know. A paint and sip night with friends and family is a wonderful weekend plan. It’s even better when you walk away with stunning portraits of your dear companions.

If the idea of hosting an evening of paint and wine with your favourite pet owners sounds a little bit too messy, let Pinot & Picasso do the heavy lifting. Our studios have everything you and your gang of animal lovers need for an unforgettable evening.

6. Honour them forever

Our pets give us companionship, love and joy. Imagining life without them seems impossible. As much as we wish our favourite animals would stay with us forever, the day eventually comes when they are no longer by our side.

A gorgeous portrait is the perfect way to memorialise your beloved pet. It announces to the world just how special your relationship is and will honour them in a way no photograph can.

7. No one knows your pet better than you

When you make the decision to create pet canvas art, you have a number of options. The easy way out is to simply commission a painting from a professional artist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do people paint their dogs?

People paint their dogs because they see them as family. If you love your animal as much as any person, capturing your animal’s heart and soul with a hand-crafted painting is the best way to show it. Photos have their place, but custom pet portraits are an undeniable proclamation of love and appreciation.

How to take a good portrait photo of your pet

The best results for custom pet portraits require you to work based on an image. Some top tips for snapping the perfect picture of your pet include:

  1. Have the camera level with your pet.
  2. Avoid flash by utilising natural light.
  3. Patience is a virtue.
  4. Play around with angles and camera settings.
  5. Use toys or treats to distract your pet.
  6. Focus on the eyes – they tend to be the most expressive part of an animal.
  7. Schedule your session at a time when your pet is sleepy, not energised.
  8. Stray away from overly-cluttered backgrounds.
  9. Act quickly when the perfect shot presents itself.
  10. Experiment and don’t forget to have fun!

How to hang a canvas

You don’t need to be a DIY expert to display your masterwork. Hanging a canvas requires just four simple steps:

Step 1: Mark the wall with a pencil.

Step 2: Hammer in, stick or otherwise attach the wall hook.

Step 3: Attach a bracket, sawtooth hanger or wire to your canvas.

Step 4: Place your masterpiece on the wall. Perfectionists might use a spirit level to ensure that it is completely straight.

What is Neon Nights?

Pinot and Picasso Neon Nights Paint and Sip

You’ve probably heard of this really cool, really fun creative experience and thought “what is Neon Nights?” Neon Nights is our paint and sip experience under UV lights. What does that mean?

In order for your artwork to have a “glow” up, we need to turn the lights off and turn on special UV lights. Even though we use neon paint, your artwork unfortunately won’t glow in the dark at home- it gets by with a little help from their friend (UV lights). However, the experience is what you buy the tickets for!

We say the fun continues after dark with our Neon Nights paint and sip experience, and we mean it. The vibe well and truly heightens with a popping party playlist (dare you to say that five times fast) as you create a unique masterpiece.

Which Pinot & Picasso Customer Are You?

Which Pinot & Picasso Customer Are You?

Which Paint and Sip Character Are You?

We have managed to find all kinds of weird and wonderful people that have joined us at our Pinot & Picasso studios across Australia and New Zealand. These have become characters in the world of Pinot & Picasso, and there is a high chance that you (or one of your nearest and dearest) fit into one of the characteristics. Let’s see if you can predict which one you’ll be at our paint and sip session:

1. Samantha Jones: The one who loves a drink

It’s no secret that our customers love a glass of wine or two… or eight. They’ll often be the loudest in the room with their apron half falling off. You’ll never see their glass get low as top-ups are frequent. Despite being a little boozy, they always have a good time with their friends at Pinot & Picasso – even if they’re getting filmed by their friends.

2. Barney Stinson: The overly competitive one

We all know one… and if you can’t think of one, it’s probably you. You’ll see this wild-eyed character with a paintbrush in hand and a paintbrush tucked behind their ear while they are frantically painting. They will keep one eye on their artwork and the other on their ‘rivals’. They won’t settle for anything less than being the best. We’ll let our hosts decide.

3. Emily Cooper: The Social Media Muse

Step aside; the TikTokker is here. Dressed to the nines with a cute bag and heeled boots, you won’t catch them without their phone in hand. Guaranteed to be filming short clips for their TikTok. You’ll definitely find their video on your ‘For You’ page, and don’t lie, you’ll be watching it a few times and saving it.

4. Jim Halpert: The boyfriend who got dragged along that low-key loves it

Happy wife, happy life? Although they have been forced to tag along with the missus, the smile on their face is bound to appear sooner or later, even if it’s painted on. They won’t be standing with their arms folded looking depresso for too long inside our Pinot & Picasso studios. With a beer in hand, they’ll soon forget about whatever excuse they made to try and not come.

 5. Joey Tribbiani: The one who came for the snacks

Is there a bag of chips missing? It won’t take long to find the culprit who often has food stuck to their hand the entire night. They won’t be stressing about whether they’ve painted in the right spot, but they will be anxious about whether the snacks will last the session.

Which Pinot & Picasso Customer Are You?

6. Jack Dawson: The Closeted Picasso

This secret superstar will always play it shy and humble in the paint and sip environment. They won’t tell anyone, even their closest friends about their dirty, little secret. That’s right – their hidden talent of being a natural artist, just like Picasso. Despite being envious of their talent and flawless artwork, don’t be shy in asking them for tips on painting or for them to fix that accidental smudge mark on the corner of your canvas – someone must’ve put it there…

So, which character will you be at Pinot & Picasso? We have one that represents us, and that’s Pierre. Hint: he’s all 6 characters. Book your paint and sip session at your Pinot & Picasso studio today.

What to wear to a paint and sip party?

What to wear to a paint and sip party

What to wear to a paint and sip party

You’re about to get arty while you party at Pinot & Picasso. There are many factors to consider for your outfit for the private paint and sip party – what you are celebrating, your location, how formal or casual it is, what other people are wearing – it can be all too much.

Here’s our recommendations for finding the perfect outfit for your paint and sip party:

Don’t overthink it

We think you’ll look great in whatever you choose to wear, but do make sure you are comfortable. We don’t want you feeling uneasy while sitting or standing as you paint.

Most special occasions like hen dos and birthday parties may have a theme which can make your decision easier. If you’re attending a paint and sip team building event, jeans and a cute top will always do the job.

Designer clothes are for the runway

No one wants to hear someone complaining about paint on their clothes, especially expensive designer clothes. Those articles of clothing are not designed for art studios. Keep them paint-free by keeping them hung up in your wardrobe. You’ll thank us later.

This also goes for clothing of sentimental value. It’s easier to save it for another occasion.

Accessorise

Keeping your outfit simple for your paint and sip party? Elevate your look with statement accessories. Wear a cute beret to channel your inner artist. Wear bold earrings and jewellery to level up to a fashionista.

All shoes welcome

The choice is yours. We recommend wearing enclosed shoes like boots  but it isn’t a necessity. Think about which shoes you’d be happy to wear for three hours and beyond – especially, if the party continues after the sip and paint event.

Some functions may be more formal than others, so you are welcome to wear high heels or dress sandals. It may be a more casual vibe so sneakers like Converse are perfectly fine too.

We welcome all footwear (please don’t come in bare feet) to our paint and sip parties.

Be prepared for spillages

As mentioned above, sometimes paint just somehow lands on your clothes, in your hair, or on your skin. You’ll question how it got there but nevertheless, it’s there. Being stylish can come at a cost but do be prepared for the worst case scenario – don’t worry, no Carrie moments have happened in our studios.

While you will be wearing a Pinot & Picasso apron, we can’t guarantee that you might get a splash of paint on yourself. Sometimes the messier the party, the more fun – right?

Do it for the ‘Gram

You can ignore all our suggestions – we may do that too. We always encourage posting to Instagram, TikTok and other social media channels when you’re at our paint and sip sessions. We love to see you master the art of fun

If this plays a part in what you wear, c’est la vie. We just sounded like Emily in Paris.

All in all, just be you. You never go out of style, as good ol’ Taylor Swift once sang. Have a special occasion coming up? Book a UK paint and sip party with Pinot & Picasso today.

What is a paint and sip class?

What is a Paint and Sip Class?

Good question. Before we jump into who we are, let’s break down what we do.

A paint and sip class is a fun and entertaining experience that is the perfect combination of art and booze.  It is led by a talented artist that guides customers through a chosen artwork step-by-step. A UK sip and paint class is for all abilities as no talent is necessary to have fun.

Each paint and sip class runs for three hours with popular music playing while the customer creates their own masterpiece with their friends, partner, mum or even just themselves. Customers are encouraged to unwind with their favourite alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink and snacks, brought with them to the studio.

That’s a pretty good summary right? Now that you know the basics, here is what you can expect with a paint and sip class at Pinot & Picasso UK:

No Talent Necessary

It’s one of our mottos. We mean it when we say no talent necessary for our sip and paint sessions. Our artists are talented, bubbly and patient. They will also guide you step-by-step through your chosen artwork. You will be pleasantly surprised with the final product.

Fun Guaranteed

Our studios are a collaborative, safe space where customers are encouraged to let their hair down (look out for the paint) and enjoy three hours of unlocking a new skill. You can sip, dip, splash, slosh around with your friends all while you create an artwork that may have you thinking “should I apply to be an artist here?” Don’t forget to thank the artists for their guidance.

Drinks and Snacks

You can purchase alcoholic or non-alcoholic bevvies at our UK paint and sip classes – bloody brilliant. Whatever mood you’re in, we’ll be sure to have the right drop for you. Just don’t forget to bring some snacks along with you.

Artwork For Your Home

As we said earlier, after three hours you will have a completed masterpiece. You can finally start that home gallery you’ve been talking about. Hang your Pinot & Picasso artwork in your living room, bedroom or toilet (it’s your house), and brag to your friends about your artistic skills. We know they’ll be impressed.
